Panorama Kultur - About us
Who we are?
Panorama Kultur – Europa Mniej Znana (Panorama of Cultures – the Europe Less Known) is a magazine that deals with the cultural and intellectual life and traditions of our part of Europe, which is known as the Central Eastern Europe. In a wide sense of this term.
The idea of a magazine first appeared in October 2002 among the students of the School of Eastern Europe and Institute of Slavic Language and Literature Studies of the Warsaw University and their friends. In the circle of persons, who participated in creation of magazine, there are young scientific employees, journalists, translators, students and fiends of all kinds
After three months of preparations in January 2003 Panorama Kultur has started in the Internet. The beginnings were very “modest” but since this time every month is bringing us new bigger and smaller achievements. We are developing slowly but systematically – in a time of three years of activity of Panorama the number of our guests has increased a several dozen times reaching now around a thousand visits per day. We are establishing new contacts, developing cooperation with our partners and friend institutions, we are getting involved into more and more new undertakings. We were providing patronage for over a dozen of events, festivals and conferences and our presence always resulted in noticeable effects: increased interest of media and number of guests
In October 2003 we have registered a Panorama Kultur Association, which supports the website actions and initiatives bounded up with the magazine. The Association has its seat in Wojs?awice – a town with multicultural traditions situated in the county of Che?m. This place is connected with one of our major achievement – the book "Scraps of rememberance", a story about multicultural past of Wojs?awice, which we have published in November 2005 thanks to the financial aid of Polish-American Freedom Foundation. Later, on 7th June 2006 we have also received a distinction for a photo reportage presenting realization of this project (it can be seen at www.dzialajlokalnie.pl).
We are cooperating with other media, which are also involved in the affairs of Central Europe (i.e. Central Europe Review, Polish Radio), publishing houses (i.e. Czarne and Bezdro?a) and also cultural institutions attached to the embassies (Bulgarian Cultural Institute, Czech Centre, Slovak Institute) and other institutions who are dealing with the culture of Central Eastern Europe. Naturally we are open for cooperation with another partners and communities, for whom the Central Europe is a close region.
Panorama Kultur is a definitely non-commercial initiative – all people, who are involved in our work, act as volunteers. All of them are doing what they really like and what they are interested in – we consider this as a one of our most important merits
If you are interested in culture of a single or a few countries/regions from the Central-Eastern Europe or Balkans and you would like to join our team – don't hesitate to contact us!
What we are doing?
Panorama Kultur works in area of promotion and popularization of culture of the countries of Central Eastern Europe – in this, what is common for all of us and in this, what we are differing in. We are aiming to show the close elements between the nations and communities and also the diversity of cultures and traditions appearing in this very unique region, which is our part of Europe.
One of our goals is to focus the other undertakings connected with the culture of Central Eastern Europe and all the people interested in this subject, joining and integrating these spheres. We also consider as our duty buliding and promoting the Central European identity.
We are dealing not only with the culture of nations but also the ethnic minorities and international cultures such as Jews, Lemkos or Roma. We are focused on the cultures of the Middle of Europe, but we are not closing ourselves for other European cultures. In future we would like to present articles about interesting though less known cultural phenomenons from all our Continent
Our motto is: Let’s discover the less known Europe!!!
