Wydawnictwo a5

Wydawnictwo a5 istnieje od 1989. Jest wydawnictwem autorskim i całkowicie niezależnym. Publikuje przede wszystkim poezję, a także eseistykę, prozę i książki z pogranicza sztuk. W roku 1998 przeniosło się z Poznania do Krakowa.

The a5 Press was founded in 1989, and has been owned and run by Krystyna and Ryszard Krynicki since July, 1991. It is a non-profit press. In spite of the commercial tendencies then prevalent in Polish publishing, a5 has from the outset published primarily poetry, as well as criticism, prose, art books, books on the arts, and translations.

It has published books by Wisława Szymborska, Zbigniew Herbert, Hanna Krall, James Merrill, Charles Simic, Stanisław Barańczak, Adam Zagajewski, Ewa Lipska and Marcin Świetlicki, among others.

Books published by a5 have been frequently nominated for the NIKE Prize, Poland's most prestigious literary award. Stanisław Barańczak received the award in 1999 for his book „Surgical Precision” (Chirurgiczna precyzja) published by a5.

In 2001, its publications included Zbigniew Herbert's final, unpublished book, „The King of the Ants” (Król mrówek) and Hanna Krall's „So You Are Daniel” (To ty jesteś Daniel).

Through its scrupulous attention to high quality graphic and typographical production values, the press programmatically alligns itself with the best traditions of modernist and avant-garde bookmaking.The press moved from Poznań to Kraków in 1998.
