The European Poet of Freedom Festival is not only the leading literature event in Gdańsk, but it is also visible on the national level. Poland is perceived as the poets’ land, yet still poetry is highly unappreciated, or celebrated in a very pompous and sacred way. The Festival leaves the area of the experts and mystery, opens up towards broader audience and crosses the language barrier. It proposes a fresh, worship-free ways of interpretation and functions of the poetry in the contemporary society – says Tadeusz Dąbrowski, the art director of the Festival.
